When my partner and I got pregnant, we knew that having supportive and queer-affirming providers and supporters throughout the process was going to be a priority for us. We were stressed and worried about what the labor and delivery experience would be like in a hospital where the nurses would be new to us. When we found out about Jess's doula services, we were instantly relieved. Her services and queer joy were exactly what we were looking for!
At the beginning of our third trimester, we met with Jess to chat about our birth preferences and what type of support we were hoping for. She is so disarming that I found I could chat about vulnerable and sensitive topics with ease. She helped us understand the pros and cons of different options and supported our final word in every decision. Jess also asked the perfect questions to help us understand our underlying fears, goals, and priorities. After this discussion, we knew she understood us and our needs - and it all showed during the labor and delivery process.
I don't even know where to begin when it comes to how pivotal she was to our experience. Her presence, knowledge, advocacy, and joy made a world of difference during our complicated labor and delivery. She was always there when we needed her, and we always felt supported. She was also sensitive to the time my partner and I needed to process things together. Her sense of where to be and when to be there is truly a gift. With Jess’s support, I felt confident in my decisions and always knew that she would be honest with me. Her support helped me feel empowered, even in such a vulnerable situation.
Jess will always have a special place in our hearts. Every time I look at our beautiful baby, I am reminded of how crucial she was in bringing them into the world.
The medical team at our hospital also were impressed how well Jess supported us and created a positive, collaborative environment. When we were visited by the nurse leaders while recovering in the postpartum unit at the hospital, both nurse leaders shared how much they loved Jess. They said they’ve seen a lot of doulas and that her energy sets her apart. Jess connected so well with all of our nurses and helped create a sense of calm and joy during a stressful situation.
Jess was truly made to be a doula, and you will be supported, loved, and celebrated by her throughout your pregnancy and birthing experiences. It is with a full heart and so much (queer) joy that we provide our strongest support and recommendation for Jess and her doula services. You will not be disappointed.
